A letter from Mary - way back in 1980, I believe - since it's December, and I'm in Pittsburgh. She talks about many moves and problems getting settled with the cooperative, about snow in Massachusetts. It is good being able to be in touch with her again. Reading this letter, it is also good to know that things worked out well for her. She deserved it.

Now, here's a mystery which is actually of interest to no one, not even me. An envelope addressed to the ngb in the Dane County Jail (B Block) which has been Returned to Sender (me) (1/11/84) with absolutely nothing in it. Now, perhaps I retrieved the original letter. But the envelope has been opened and retaped across the top. I wouldn't have done that. Where is the letter? Did they open it and keep the letter, returning the empty envelope to me? I no longer care, but it's the most interesting thing I can find to write about today.

I don't remember going to this show, but chances are I did. It's a University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Alternate Theatre production of "Working, A Musical" based on the book "Working" by Studs Terkel. We hear from steelworkers, editors, secretarys, teachers, checkers, meter readers, housewives, millworkes, stonemasons, waitresses, telephone operators, firemen, seamen, cleaning women...well, you get the picture. Read the book. Studs is always worth the read.

One very peculiar paragraph in the program insert:

"Because the ventilation system will be turned off during the performance, we ask that you kindly refrain from smoking during the actual performance."

I barely remember that world.

You can't get in anyplace FREE for 3 bucks anymore!
